It is also said that Shah Jahan ordered that the hands of the craftsmen be chopped off after the completion of Taj Mahal, as he did not want them to build another grand monument like the Taj.

c) Shah Jahan fell in love with and married Arjumand Bano Begum as his third wife, who was christened as Mumtaz Mahal, meaning the "chosen one".

d) Mumtaz Mahal died after giving birth to their 14th child

e) The decision to build the Taj was said to be based upon the last minute promise secured by Mumtaz for constructing the most beautiful monument in her memory.

f) Reportedly, Shah Jahan had planned to build another Taj Mahal in black marble as his own tomb, a plan thwarted by his sons.

g) More than 1,000 elephants were made use of for the transportation of the construction materials.

h) As many as 28 different varieties of semi-precious and precious stones were used to adorn the Taj with exquisite inlay work which was later plundered in successive wars.

i) Some claim that Taj Mahal was designed by the Italian architect Geronimo Veroneo, however there is no hard evidence to prove this claim.
